The Affordable Housing Summit

Sherry Larjani

Sherry began her career working as a designer at a luxury architecture firm in Toronto. In 2010, Sherry created Spotlight Development Inc, specializing in the acquisition of properties for redevelopment into high density residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects.
In 2019, Sherry partnered with Urban Capital to create “Reina”, a project with Canada's first all- female development team to raise awareness of gender inequality in the industry and the many roles women can play.
In 2019, she started the Aria Foundation, a charitable organization that helps non-for-profit housing partners empower lower-income families to become homeowners. In 2019, Sherry also created “The Inclusive” through Spotlight’s non-profit arm Spotlight Affordable Ventures Non- Profit Housing.
“The Inclusive” is the first of its kind, an affordable housing complex with multiple towers that includes poverty-reducing wrap-around services including a 24-hour day- care, a medical centre, skilled-trades training, food bank access, and a Brands for Canada store with donated clothes and hygiene items. These complete communities will also feature planting gardens, solar panels, and geothermal technology. The first location will be built at Black Creek and Lawrence, in Toronto, and the second location will be built at the corner of Block-Line Road and Courtland Avenue in Kitchener. The Aria Foundation supports “The Inclusive” project which also collaborates with partners Habitat for Humanity (GTA & Waterloo), Trillium Housing, BlackNorth Initiative, WoodGreen Community Services, Good Shepherd Non-Profit Housing, and the Dream Legacy Foundation.
In 2022, Sherry joined the Veterans for Canada Fundraising Cabinet to help raise money for soldiers who need supportive housing. In 2023 she joined the Humber River Hospital Foundation to help address community health care shortages. In 2023, Sherry became a member of the University of Toronto (REAC) Real Estate Advisory Committee. An advocate for collaboration, Sherry champions inclusivity and teamwork as a foundation for a successful approach towards real estate development.
